"Du bist ein Schmerz im Nacken" - my trainer
Hallo from Deutschland!!
I've been in Germany for a little over a week now and it has been AMAZING!!
When we arrived at the airport, President and Sister Hammon (the mission president and his wife) were there, as well as some other missionaries, to greet us new missionaries. I had my interview with President and was able to just talk and get to know them both a bit. They're so awesome and I already feel so so loved by them!!
After that all the new missionaries went out with random trainers to street contact, which was kinda scary cause I don't know much German but it was also so cool! I went with Sister Sorenson and the first gal we talked to has actually been looking for a church and we were able to exchange numbers. It was a very encouraging way to start the whole missionary thing here haha
Later that night we were assigned to our areas and our trainers. I'm serving in Unna, this cute little town, with Sister Maughan. It's kinda crazy cause I had a feeling she'd be my trainer so when that was announced I was so pumped! We spent the next day traveling to Unna via Bahns and buses, which took like 4 or 5 hours, but was nice cause I got to hear a lot about Germany and our area.
The rest of the week we kinda just got right into it with member appointments, finding, and lessons. So much happened and it's hard to remember/explain it all, but here are some of the highlights from the week:
- went to the Christmas market in Unna. It was super cute and got me SO excited for Christmas
- our washer broke and basically flooded our bathroom (I have to do laundry today so wish me luck 😂)
- someone confessed their love for Sister Maughan and tried to convince her to let him be her Germany boyfriend. I was dying during the entire phone call and didn't think it was the worst idea cause he has a car and we don't (I'm in a biking area and all I'm gonna say is I'd better be in great shape by the end of this haha)
- went to a member family's home a couple times for lunch. The food is always bomb but they only speak German so I only get pieces of the conversation lol
- had my first döner, definitely lived up to the hype
- went to church and had to introduce myself and share my testimony in German. Was also nicknamed Bigfoot by one of the youth leaders haha
- my trainer told me I'm a pain in the neck 😂 I've quite literally given her some sort of cramp thing in her neck cause she's not used to looking up at her comps (she's pretty tall too and was shocked to find out she'd be the short companion)
- it snowed!! so we made a little snow-missionary outside of our apartment
- were late coming home cause our lesson ran late and we missed a bus. Our original ETA after that was 23:59 😬 luckily we were able to find another plan and got home before 22:30
And yeah I think that's basically it. Sorry that this email is a little long and chaotic but this week has been so fun and so overwhelming and just an all around adventure and I guess I'm just gonna carry that energy over into this email 😂
Love and miss you all!
Tschüss!
Sister Downing Street (as everyone I've met so far has referred to me at least once lol)
